RenderMan "Rolling Teapot" Art Challenge

Join Pixar’s second RenderMan Art Challenge! In the "Rolling Teapot" challenge you'll get to showcase your shading, lighting, and compositing skills, by creating your best render. Model created by Brice Laville Saint-Martin and concept art by Tom Robinson.

Use RenderMan with you favorite application: Autodesk Maya, Foundry's Katana, SideFX Houdini, or Blender.

The deadline for the challenge is November 30th, 2017 - Midnight PST (Pacific Standard Time - USA).
Winners will receive valuable prizes, sponsored in-part by Pluralsight, Allegorithmic, and Pixar. Best of luck!

See what’s new in V-Ray 3.6 for Maya

  • Hybrid Rendering: V-Ray GPU CUDA now renders on CPUs as well as GPUs, to take full advantage of all available hardware.
  • Full Light Select render element: Render individual lights or groups of lights as separate render elements, with full support for global illumination, reflections and refractions for accurate light mixing in post.
  • Cryptomatte: Automatically generate ID mattes with support for transparency, depth of field and motion blur. This will speed up workflows for compositors working in NUKE or Fusion.
  • NVIDIA NVLink: Supports shared GPU memory across NVLink compatible graphics cards.
  • MDL Materials: NVIDIA’s universal material format is now supported in V-Ray for Maya, allowing designers to apply MDL materials authored in programs like Substance Designer to their assets and scenes.
  • Viewport 2.0 improvements: V-Ray lights can now illuminate objects in Viewport 2.0, making light setup much easier. Direct support for environmental reflections and V-Ray materials have also been added.

Krakatoa, Frost, XMesh and Stoke – Ready for 3ds Max 2018

The Thinkbox 3ds Max plugins have been updated with 3ds Max 2018 support!

A new updated license is required for each one of them - please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to request a new license if your Support & Maintenance contract is active, or to renew it if it has expired.

New versions of Krakatoa, Frost, XMesh and Stoke, rebuilt for 3ds Max 2018 are now available for download. Just follow the links below to get your update:

Krakatoa MX 2.7 - same as v2.6.3, but with added 3ds Max 2018 support. v3.0 is currently in Beta.

Frost MX 2.1 - same as v2.0.14, but with added 3ds Max 2018 support.

Stoke MX 2.3.5 - a new version with 3ds Max 2018 support and several new features - see Change Log

XMesh MX 1.5 - same as v1.4, but with added 3ds Max 2018 support.

Deadline Release: 10.0.2.0

This is the second revision release for Deadline 10.0. It fixes a few bugs that have been reported during the 10.0 release cycle and adds some minor improvements.

General Improvements:

  • Added a new Network Whitelist to the page to the Repository Options. If the Network Whitelist is enabled, the Web Service and Connection Servers will only accept communication from the IP addresses specified in the list.

Installer Improvements:

  • The AWS Portal Link Server installer now displays a more helpful message when trying to install over a previous version.
  • Added better error detection/handling in the AWS Portal Link Server installer.
  • Added better logging in the AWS Portal Server installer.
  • Fixed the widths of some of the labels in the AWS Portal Server installer interface.

Maya LT 2018 is released!

With several UV improvements and exciting new modeling tool updates, Autodesk® Maya LT® 2018 helps game developers work faster than ever before.

Modeling and animation workflows have seen significant improvements that does not only allow artists to work quicker, but also help making character creation more enjoyable.

Modeling

  • Maya LT 2018 features a revamped UV editor that simplifies the UI and introduces new UV features and simplified workflows.
  • Maya LT 2018 introduces a new intelligent stacking feature and the ability to automatically distribute UVs so game developers can get their UV work done quicker.

Animation

  • Get better control over offsetting of clips with Maya LT’s Modern Time Editor featuring a new workflow for defining custom root(s) for relocator objects allowing for better control in world space. Time editor Clips can now be looped progressively, so that cycles project forward.

Viewport

  • Maya LT 2018 introduces transparent shadows that cast correct 1-bit shadows and ambient occlusion (SSAO) through cards with transparent texture maps, allowing for viewport shadows to be visualized in scenes that previously did not support them.
